Shedding the light on vaccines
Congratulations to partner Rowena Rae on the publication of Why We Need Vaccines: How Humans Beat Infectious Diseases (Orca Book Publishers).
Written for grades 4 to 7, Rowena’s latest book examines the history, science, ethics, and social issues related to infectious diseases and vaccines. Orca has also created a colourful classroom poster on vaccine facts based on the book.
The book just came out but is already receiving some enthusiastic reviews. “Blends personal stories with engaging nonfiction,” says Booklist. “Offers young audiences a detailed (…) account of the historical development of biological counters to diseases and epidemics,” notes Kirkus Reviews.
Rowena was also recently interviewed about the book on CBC Radio (May 6 episode, 1:49:45 to 1:57:30).
Congratulations, Rowena. We’re proud of you!
