Fitting reward for a story of labour equality

Cover of book showing a rural road lined with mailboxes.Congratulations to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on winning a Canadian Association of Labour Media award for their book Road to Equality!

WCEA helped the union produce the book in 2024 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of rural and suburban mail carriers becoming members of CUPW after a decades-long struggle to achieve labour equality. Partner Lucy Kenward was overall project manager and English-language proofreader, Merrie-Ellen Wilcox was English-language substantive editor, and Lana Okerlund was English-language copy editor.

Recognizing the book with the Cliff Scotton Prize, the awards jury wrote that it “does an amazing job of highlighting the historic gender and geographic inequalities that made labour organizing imperative. Wrapping up with a lessons learned section, this resource ties together past struggles with current and future issues for all workers.”

Bravo to everyone at CUPW involved in the book, and especially to those whose brave, determined story is told in its pages.
