Lana was a senior manager at a consulting firm in the early 2000s when she listened to the voice inside her telling her to explore an alternative career working with words.

Twenty years later, Lana often reflects on her early work experience when training and coaching workplace writers on how to use plain language techniques to make their writing easier to read, understand, and use. In addition to developing and delivering writing and editing workshops for a variety of corporate, non-profit, and public sector clients, she is on faculty for the Foundation of Administrative Justice and for Simon Fraser University’s Editing Certificate program.

Lana also writes and edits. As a writer, she has written and helped produce numerous personal and corporate history books for clients like Ledcor, MNP, Smith Bros. & Wilson, the descendants of second Vancouver mayor David Oppenheimer, and the late Wendy McDonald of BC Bearing. And as an editor, she specializes in non-fiction publications like cookbooks, government and corporate material, business titles, and general trade books.

Lana is a Certified Professional Editor and a member of Editors Canada, Plain Language Association International (PLAIN), PLAIN Canada, and the Center for Plain Language.

Living in Vancouver with her husband and son, she is a history and genealogy buff who occasionally blogs about BC’s bookselling history at agreeableplace.com. She also makes cards and stationery products in her spare time, all for the love of words, typography, and the feel of paper in her hands.
